One Wave Gathering 2021

Pacific People’s Partnership is excited and proud to announce our 14th annual One Wave Gathering!

One Wave is a vibrant, community celebration of South Pacific and Indigenous cultures, art, and knowledge hosted on the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations. This year, a variety of events will be taking place throughout the month of September.

Guided by the themes of healing and resurgence, artists, knowledge keepers, speakers, and Elders will share their stories through song, dance, film, traditional food, and art. Our themes emerged from the many challenges of life during the pandemic, which we recognize as particularly pronounced in Indigenous and racialized communities. We desire One Wave Gathering to be a time to reflect, heal, and begin to build a more equitable future for us all.

This year, events include an installation of short films created by Indigenous and South Pacific youth (OUR STORIES, OUR LAND), a day of cultural presentations and interactive activities (Sept 18), a dialogue and expression of peace presented in partnership with CIRCLE at UVic (Sep 21),  and more!

All events are free. In-person events will be regulated as per BC Health Guidelines.

Our events planned for this year include:

OUR STORIES, OUR LAND – Exhibition & Film Installation

September 10-30, Tues-Fri, 12:00-5:00pm – FLUX Media Gallery

From September 10-30, the OUR STORIES, OUR LAND exhibit will be held at FLUX Media Gallery. Come by and watch short videos created by Indigenous and South Pacific youth, including the films created through our Stories of Resilience program.

KAIROS BLANKET EXERCISE – Cancelled

Due to changing circumstances we have had to cancel the KAIROS blanket exercise this year. We have sent follow-up emails to those of you who have already registered.

Our sincerest apologies, and we hope to see you at future events!

ORANGE SHIRT DAY – Na’tsa’maht Gathering

September 30, 10-4:00pm – Royal Beach Park

You are invited to join the Na’tsa’maht Gathering hosted in Colwood by the Lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples in honour of National Truth and Reconciliation,

The Nat’tsa’maht (a Salish phrase meaning “working together as one”) Gathering will bring people from around the region together to deepen understanding of our shared history, reminding us that we are not alone on this journey. Throughout the day we’ll hear stories, enjoy traditional songs, drumming, dancing, art and paddling, share food, and participate in activities that bring us all together to create connections and build community.

PPP is honoured to offer a special presentation featuring a participatory art project that we coordinated during last year’s Orange Shirt Day.

*Provincial Covid-19 measures will be observed for this event, which includes physical distancing and wearing of masks when near others. In addition, we will encourage people to move through the Indigenous market place and not convene close together.
